G.L Talks of Home Grown Solution in Washington WASHINGTON (May 15, 2012) – External Affairs Minister Prof.G.L. Peiris opened a four-day, official visit to Washington, D.C. Tuesday with a series of meetings with key U.S. Senate leaders and a talk on Sri Lanka’s post-conflict redevelopment and reconciliation programs, emphasizing that lasting peace, stability and growth in Sri Lanka will be achieved through home-grown solutions, not those prescribed by the international community.

Tense Situation in Anuradhapura Controlled

Situation in Anuradhapura Controlled The tense situation that had erupted between residents of Vilachchiya in Anuradhapura and a group of Special Task Force (STF) officers has been brought under control.

Reports claim that a clash had occurred after residents of the area had accused the STF of illegally excavating parts of the area in search of treasure.

Speaking with regards to the incident Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that a group had arrived at the police headquarters yesterday (01) claiming that they had concealed a certain historical item (which they had recovered in Anuradhapura four years ago) in the Vilachchiya area and that an unidentified group is now attempting to excavate the area in order to recover the item.
