Mumbai Indians have signed West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith, who played for them in the 2008 season, to replace an injured Mitchell Johnson after Cricket Australia ruled the fast bowler out of IPL 2012. Smith is due to join the team on May 3.

Sri Lanka-England first Test beings in Galle GALLE: England captain Andrew Strauss on Sunday urged his world number one Test side to bounce back against Sri Lanka after the morale-sapping loss to Pakistan. “I think we’ve obviously got a point to prove,” Strauss said ahead of the two-Test series starting at the Galle International Stadium on Monday. “We have to bounce back after those results against Pakistan.”

Mahela Jayawardena Mahela Jayawardene, in his first match back as Sri Lanka captain, made an interesting move in not picking a specialist spinner. Sri Lanka lost a close match, but Jayawardene did not think the team combination was the reason. "If we had taken the last four wickets, you would have said, 'good combination'. We felt the pitch was such that four seamers would probably do the job for us. Picking up wickets is very crucial against India. We went with bowlers we thought could do that."
