Police Fire Tear Gas to Disperse Protesters

Sri Lankan Police fired tear gas and used water cannons in an attempt to disperse a JVP led demonstration in Maligawatta.
Police Media Spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana said that the Police were forced to resort to using tear gas to disperse the crowds when the demonstration in Maradana, Maligawatta had turned more aggressive.
He added that a special Police team has been deployed to investigate the incident and the area has now returned to normalcy.
