The Sri Lanka Police is to conduct a sociological investigation in to the serial killings reported from Kahawaththe.
A double murder of a mother and daughter was reported from Opatha, Kahawatta and the bodies of the victims aged 52 and 19 were found after several days of search in a forest.
Police Spokesperson Ajith Rohana said that Head of the newly established Crimes Investigation Unit of the Police Department, Criminologist C.S.K. Millawithana was deployed to the Kahawatte area to investigate the killings with regard to the pattern and motives of the killings and to conduct the sociological investigation.
Crime Specialist C.S.K.Millawithana is a graduate of Criminology and Justice of Sri Jayawardhenapura University and was appointed as Head of Criminal Investigation Unit established in Department of Police recently.
The Police Spokesperson said the results of the study would be analyzed and used to recognize the steps that should be taken to prevent such murders in the future.
A special team of police officers were also deployed by the Sabaragamuwa Province, Deputy Inspector General and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to take over the investigation and probe in to the double murder.
The suspects apprehended in connection to the murder had confessed that the victims were killed over land disputes and personal grudges.
